Speaker- Tess Owens talking about how states who use the death penalty need citizens to witness the executions but they don't want to
Occasion- States, like Arkansas, who use the death penalty are in need of volunteers to witness the deaths but they are having trouble finding these people. In these recent years, public opinion on the death penalty has been at an all time low. That is, not many people support it anymore so it is less likely for them to volunteer to witness the death.
Audience- The public, She is informing the public of a predicament in the current system so they are aware and that they can have an honest opinion and have their own stance on the issue.
Purpose- Inform the public of the problem with the current system states who use the death penalty use during the execution process.
Subject- The death penalty in states who still use it require that there be witnesses at the execution who have no affiliation what so ever with the person being executed to they have no bias toward the person. This is problematic because they require 30 people and they can not find volunteers because no one want to go and see someone get killed.
Tone- The tone of the passage is a bit worried because the way Owens wrote this article makes it sound like every event of it is happening very fast and if they don't get a fix to the problem, there could be even bigger problems.
